How percentages work
A percentage is just a fraction out of 100. "25% of 200" means 200 × 25 ÷ 100 = 50. Percentage change compares a new value to an old one: (new − old) ÷ old × 100%.
Everyday examples
- Discounts: a 30% discount on ৳1,500 saves ৳450 — you pay ৳1,050.
- Tips: 10% of a ৳2,200 bill is ৳220.
- Grades: scoring 45 out of 60 is 75%.
- Growth: followers rising from 800 to 1,000 is a 25% increase.
